Cooking to overcome quarantine
Even though many people currently believe that the calendar no longer determines our days, or that it no longer matters whether it is night or day, we are among those who believe that time is more important now than ever. Schedules and routines (welcome routines) help us to structure the weeks and create a certain normality that helps us to overcome this situation.
Reading, doing sports, cleaning, tidying up, working from home, watching movies and doing one of the favourite things in this quarantine: Cooking.
Our MON PORT team would like to encourage you to try new creations and rediscover old recipes that have already been forgotten. Cooking for yourself or for the ones you love. Cooking is the best remedy against boredom.
Next Thursday, April 9th, Maundy Thursday will be celebrated in Spain, although from home. A celebration that is part of the famous Holy Week. This means that in addition to the processions and holidays, which we unfortunately cannot enjoy, we would like to highlight the local gastronomy. In Mallorca it means cooking panades, robiols and crespells with the family. The old family recipe book, handed down from generation to generation, is the focus during these days. The cooking of sweet and savoury recipes will allow us to regain a longed-for authenticity during these days.
The MON PORT team would like to encourage you, locals or not, to prepare some crespells.
Will you join us?
For those of you who do not know how to prepare them, we have prepared a very simple recipe here:
INGREDIENTS
100 g butter
100 g sugar
20 g olive oil
60 g orange juice
1 egg yolk
500 g flour
Shall we get started?
First, mix the olive oil and butter well with your hands. Add all the remaining ingredients, except the flour, and mix everything again until you get a homogeneous dough.
Then we add the flour.
Next, roll out the dough with a rolling pin and cut out with the crespells shapes (shape of a flower with 6 petals, a heart, etc.) The biscuits are then baked at 180 degrees for 10 or 15 minutes until they are golden.
Those with a sweet tooth can sprinkle additional icing sugar on the crespells at the end.
As Mallorcans, we have introduced you to one of the traditional recipes. Would you like to send us photos and recipes of your typical desserts? Once we open our doors again, we will organize a day with international desserts.
Will you participate?
