Caves of Mallorca: discover the underground wonders near Mon Port
Mallorca dazzles under the sun, but beneath the surface lies an equally fascinating world. From Mon Port Hotel & Spa, we recommend a tour of some of the island's most spectacular caves, perfect for adding mystery and coolness to your summer outings.
Cuevas del Drach (Porto Cristo)
The Cuevas del Drach, located in Porto Cristo in Manacor, are a must-see and among Spain's most famous subterranean attractions. The four interconnected caves stretch for about 1,200 m at depths of up to 25 m and culminate in Lake Martel, one of the largest underground lakes in the world.
The visit lasts around one hour and includes a live classical music concert performed on boats and the option to cross the lake or walk across a bridge—all included. Inside, temperatures stay between 17 °C and 21 °C, a welcome respite in summer.
Tickets cost approximately EUR17 online (EUR17.50 at the ticket office) for adults, and EUR10-11 for children aged 3-12 (under 3 free). During summer, entrance slots run from 10:00 to 17:00, with a break around midday.
Cuevas dels Hams (Porto Cristo)
Nearby are the Cuevas dels Hams, famous for their remarkable hook-shaped stalactites and stalagmites. The tour includes a guided walk through 12 chambers, the "Magical Mozart" light show and the "Sea of Venice" underground lake where musicians perform from illuminated boats.
Cuevas d'Artà (Capdepera)
Located northeast under the cliffs of Cap Vermell near Canyamel Bay, the Cuevas d'Artà offer a 35-40 minute guided tour every 30 minutes. You'll pass through areas like the "Queen of Columns" chamber and a dramatic light-and-sound show in the "Hell" hall.
The caves stay between 17 °C and 22 °C year-round, and the adult entrance is around EUR15, kids from 7 to 12 at half price, and under 7 free.
