Three Plans to Enjoy in Calvià

Three Plans to Enjoy in Calvià

The municipality of Calvià is located in the western part of Mallorca. It boasts 54 kilometers of coastline with 36 beaches and coves, as well as a wonderful cultural heritage and many opportunities for outdoor sports.

Calvià is a decentralized municipality consisting of many diverse towns, both coastal and inland, making it worth considering for the colder months or as an alternative to sun and beach activities. It offers 150 kilometers of exclusive cycling routes, 100 kilometers for hiking, and another 32 kilometers for leisurely walks near pine forests or the sea.

Here are the best plans you can enjoy in the municipality:

Galatzó Estate

The Galatzó Estate is a natural, archaeological, and heritage paradise in Mallorca. It covers an area of 14 hectares and is open to the public. It is surrounded by the Sierra de Tramontana, extensive farmlands, and almond tree groves.

It is a reference point for hiking in Mallorca, but it also hosts cultural activities, historical explanations about the estate's origins, adventure plans, and many initiatives for experiencing nature.

Explore the Town of Calvià

Sometimes overshadowed by the beauty of beaches like Camp de Mar or the charm of fishing villages like Sant Elm, Calvià is a lovely village located very close to the mountains.

The entrance to the village is marked by the modern town hall, a structure with visible ironwork, bold lines, and a beautiful garden at its feet, which you can enjoy after a meal or snack at the town hall's restaurant.

The church is another prominent feature of Calvià. Built on the site of an old Muslim farm, it is impressive due to its height and refined style. You can visit it during religious services or on Mondays, market day in the village.

Walking through the streets, you'll discover the typical architecture of Mallorca and some renowned residences such as the 12th-century rectory house, whose courtyard is worth admiring, the doctor's house from the early 20th century, or Can Verger, a privileged place housing the library and featuring a courtyard full of fruit trees and Mediterranean plants.

Experience the Sunset from the Cross of Conquest in Santa Ponsa

According to history, King James I, known as the Conqueror, had planned to land in Mallorca in the bay of Pollença. However, a storm forced him to change his plans and head to Santa Ponsa, where a small cove made landing easy.

Today, you can find the Cross of Conquest at this spot, which was struck by lightning a few years ago but still stands tall, commanding the sea crashing against the cliffs. It was here that Christian troops ascended the cliffs to begin the challenging battle that would end Muslim rule in Mallorca.

Many people visit this cliff overlooking the sea to enjoy a beautiful sunset or watch the return of recreational boats to the small but charming yacht club located in the former cove.

Do you enjoy sunsets? Here you will find the best places to watch them.
