Temperatures begin to drop, family celebrations begin and the streets are filled with good atmosphere: December is coming. This month is undoubtedly one of the most traditional throughout the year, and the island offers plenty of activities to do during this season. We've prepared some of this month's most common plans for you, ready?
Believe it or not, it snows in Majorca as well. Maybe not as much as in Nordic countries, but enough to go and see it dressed up and have a good time with friends and family (and take pictures of course!).
The winter season is considered the least touristy, so you'll hardly find tourists in the island's hotels. Why not treat yourself? This month is perfect to take advantage of the good prices with a relaxing and luxurious break combining beauty and health in a complete service.
Mulled wine, traditional sweets and carols in the background, Christmas is just around the corner! The island offers a lot of markets during the season where you can enjoy live music, children's workshops, performances and typical cuisine of these holidays. You can find them in Puerto Portals, which will have dozens of stalls until January 7th, in Pueblo Español you can buy some gifts for the holidays and enjoy the attractions, and in Alaró you can spend Christmas holidays in a different way.
There is no doubt that Mallorca offers many town festivals and celebrations every year, and the month of December brings a lot to celebrate. In Montuiri you can visit the Agricultural Fair and admire the different partridges’ species and find organic products in the market. In Marratxí you will be able to taste Almond Milk from different artisans who manage to create an authentic Christmas atmosphere.
On the first of November the first chestnut roasters begin to appear in the streets of the villages between the different stalls, where you can enjoy some hot, freshly made chestnuts. Beware of burning yourself! Next to them, you will see daughters, mothers and grandmothers offering homemade buñuelos with sugar in front of their house doors. A real treat!
The winter season is considered perfect for this type of activity, as the low temperatures and pleasant climate are perfect for long excursions. The island offers an endless number of hiking and trekking routes where you can discover the most beautiful corners that combine sea and mountain to perfection. Do you want to learn about the most beautiful route on the island? You can find out more about it here.
Considered the most beautiful marina on the Mediterranean Sea, this small fishing port has a unique charm and offers countless restaurants and bars. It is a real gem at night, the lights and the sea in the background are great for a stroll at any time of day. If you want to discover the whole port by bicycle, here you can rent one.
Valldemosa already creates a completely idyllic atmosphere, what better than to complement the visit with a hot chocolate? And even better... What better than a coca de patata? We recommend going to the emblematic Ca'n Molinas, which has been selling the best cocas and chocolates on the island since 1920.
The capital of the island offers a large number of routes through the streets, where you can find nativity scenes in churches, shops and private homes. Some of them are elaborated with recycled materials, of traditional character and even some of them created by children with their own toys.
The solstice is celebrated annually in the Cathedral of Palma, where you will enjoy an effect of lights and precious colours, as the sun's rays enter through the rosette of the altar and exit through the portal. In this way, a colour cylinder is created at dawn - a unique experience!
